Perfect Day at CocoCay

Welcome to our Perfect Day at CocoCay!l Perfect Day at CoCoCay is Royal Caribbean’s private island in the Bahamas and has plenty of options to keep everyone in your group happy whether they want chills or thrills.

Now, no one in my family was up early enough to watch us dock. I tried. I really did but it wasn’t happening after the busy day we had yesterday. We did watch Independence of the Seas sister ship, Freedom of the Seas dock. Everyone got ready for the day and I packed up our beach bag. I switched our pool sunscreen to this reef safe option and threw in our chair towel clips. Before heading to the island, we started our morning with a hearty breakfast at the Windjammer. Bacon, eggs, pancakes and doughnuts just because it’s a vacation.

When disembarking to CoCoCay, you only need your personal items and your SeaPass. You can pickup towels before disembarking or wait until you’re on the island. We opted to pickup before leaving but I think we’ll wait until we pick our spot before getting towels next time. You are able to exchange towels on the island just as you are on the ship.

The pier for Perfect Day at CoCoCay is vibrant and lively with festive performers and photographers to get the perfect picture in front of your ship. A tram service is also available if you don’t want to make the trek to the island. We opted to walk the half mile and take in the breathtakingly clear waters. Now, here’s the hard part; choosing where to start first! We went for Oasis Lagoon the largest freshwater pool in the Caribbean. My kids LOVE water and honestly I was not in the mood to have eagle eyes on them in the ocean so pool it was. We found a nice spot in the shade to call home while the waiter found us. So before 9 am we’ve found a great spot, got our feet wet and started day drinking. Hey, it’s vacation right?

This pool is amazing! It offers zero entry, lounge chairs in the water, as well as a swim up pool bar. There is plenty of shade available around the pool and a few shady spots in the pool, plus close bathrooms. Also close by is Skipper’s Canteen. This buffet style quick service offers burgers, hot dogs, tacos, etc. Plus, my family’s favorite, ice cream machines! Skipper’s Canteen is centrally located so there are multiple buffet lines and drink stations.

After lunch, we headed over to Harbor Beach directly next to Skipper’s Canteen. Royal Caribbean does a great job of providing enough chairs and umbrellas so you should be able to find a spot. This, however, was not my favorite spot. It’s still a harbor so the water is a little stagnant and smelly. There is a fountain to circulate the water but it wasn’t doing much. We didn’t stay long here because of this.

Being in the sun and on the go, was starting to take it’s toll on some of us. (Me to be exact) There is a tram stop not far from Harbor Beach so we headed over there to take a tour of the parts of the island we had not seen yet.

The trams……. The trams, in my opinion, were not ran efficiently. Not all trams stop at all locations so we had to wait a bit for one. We did manage to catch one that went to the ship. We then had to catch a another tram to take us back to the entrance of the island. Where we had to walk around to the side to catch the tram that went around the island. Maybe it was bad timing, bad luck with full trams or trams not working or drivers needing breaks but we had the worst time with trams. So plan accordingly and pack your patience. We did manage to get on a tram that took us around the island with stops at South Beach, Coco Beach Club, Chill Island and Oasis Lagoon. We opted not to get off and explore any of these stops because we were getting hot and cranky but all spots had great activities to suit anyone.

Because the routes are either around the island or back and forth across the pier to the ship, we were dropped back off towards the front of the island. At the entrance is Captain Jill’s Galleon ship water play area that the kids hung out at for a little bit. I was done with the tram situation and made my family walk back to the ship. They weren’t happy about it but we did get to see the beautiful blue water and tropical fish. When getting back on, you’ll need to show your SeaPass and go through security to check for contraband. A.K.A. sand, shells and island creatures.

After boarding, the boy wanted to go check out the Living Room. This is a hangout spot for teenagers that has a sofa bar and video games. My husband opted for a nap and my daughter and I went exploring on the ship. We went forward to aft and port to starboard and all spots in between. Along the way we picked up our complimentary brackets for the day and may have had an ice cream or two. By now, it was time to clean up for dinner. We headed to the Main Dining Room for Italian night where we indulged in our Italian favorites, plus steak!

After dinner we completed the Art Scavenger Hunt in the Art Gallery until it was time to drop the kids at the kids clubs. Here you are given clues about select paintings that are numbered throughout the gallery and you try to match them up. Don’t worry if you get stuck. The attendees are welcoming and offer assistance when needed. Each completed form is tallied for correct answers for a prize. We didn’t get a call so I don’t think we won.

The kids clubs were a big hit on the first night so they wanted to go back. This worked out for us since we wanted to walk the Promenade and check out the casino. We’re not big gamblers; I honestly have no clue how to play any of the high roller tables so we went with the quarter drop machine. You know the one at your local arcade where you drop in a coin and it may or may not push off other coins. Yeah, that’s my jam! My husband and I each went in with $20.00 and promptly lost most of it! But that’s ok, we came from behind and finished the night $20.00 ahead. We enjoyed having some drinks & playing a child’s game. To each their own.

We picked up the kids a little early and my husband and son stayed in the arcade and played a few games, and my daughter and I headed to the pool deck for a quick late night swim. Night swims are magical for me anyways but a night swim on a ship in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean was something so special. The pool closed at 10:00 pm so we dried, changed and headed for a late night bite to eat at Sorrento’s.

That’s it for day two. Need a recap of our boarding or our first day? Check those out here or here.
